I joined The University of Texas at Austin in 1986, right after my graduation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where I received my Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering working with Professor David Parks. I received my undergraduate education in what it is now The Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnical University in Russia. At that time, it was the Leningrad Polytechnical Institute in the former Soviet Union.

I am interested in computational and analytical methods involved in multi-scale modeling of solids and fluids. I have published papers in the following areas:

·        Creep deformation flow damage and fracture

·        Fracture mechanics

·        Micromechanics of defects in elastic solids

·        Mechanics of biological molecules and structures

·        Self-Assembly

·        Lattice Green’s functions

·        Fast boundary element methods

·        Domain decomposition methods

I am affiliated with the Institute for Computational and Engineering Sciences, Center for Mechanics of Solids Structure and Materials, Texas Materials Institute, and Center for Nano and Molecular Science and Technology.
