The ICES Postdoctoral Fellowship Program was created through an endowment donated to the University of Texas at Austin in 2001. The purpose of the endowment is to fund outstanding computational scientists who have recently completed doctoral studies in areas relevant to research conducted at the Institute. Candidates must display a significant ability to contribute to interdisciplinary research efforts in the areas of computational engineering, scientific and mathematical modeling, computational and applied mathematics, and computational visualization.
In general, fellowship recipients collaborate in research under the supervision of one or more ICES faculty members for one year. In special circumstances, the fellowship can be extended for an additional year depending on performance and availability of funds. Because the fellowship is fundamentally research focused, teaching is discouraged. Especially compelling requests must be approved by the ICES director before any teaching offers are accepted.
Fellowship stipends are approximately $60,000 per year. In addition, fellows receive UT employee benefits and a financial provision to defray relocation expenses.
Under the terms of the endowment, preference will be given to applicants who are U.S. citizens, but qualified foreign students may also be considered.
