Research Associate/Research Scientist

Purpose: To provide leading edge software methods and tools for the Stampede supercomputer and work in collaboration with TACC staff, the users of Stampede and the computational researchers of ICES.

Functions: Identify and evaluate leading edge software systems for high performance computing (HPC). Design and execute experiments on state of the art HPC software. Extend existing software and develop new software as needed and collaborate with users and TACC staff on experimental evaluations of tools and methods. Install, test and modify open source software.

Required Qualifications: Masters degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or a related area and a minimum of two years of professional experience or publications in related fields; or doctoral degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or a related area. Experience in parallel programming and computation; competence in compiler technology; knowledge of performance modeling and evaluation and knowledge of computer architecture. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong command of the English language. Must have a professional demeanor. Punctuality is important. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications: Three or more years experience in high performance computing; Competence in one or more application or algorithmic domain important in HPC; knowledge of data mining and machine learning; knowledge of expert systems, experience with writing compilers or using code analysis systems, experience with parallel I/O systems.
